STATEMENTS FOR THE PRESIDENT OF OLYMPIAKOS ABOUT THE EUROLEAGUE

These are the statements of our President Mr. Sokratis Kokkalis during the official presentation of Olympiakos on Friday 6/10/00.

Olympiakos, along with 23 more teams has left FIBA. We have attended many meetings in the past, even under the auspices of the world federation in order for the dream of making a new league, inspired on the NBA, to become a reality. As it turned out, FIBA was not taking us seriously and is now making unbelievable attacks based on strange arguments.

Those who are accusing the new competition, unfortunatelly have never been concerned with the essencial part of the matter. They have never wondered why they lost so many teams which form the elite of the european basketball. Thus, we have decided to make something new hoping that in the near future, we will commonly try to bring the ULEB and FIBA closer together. That way, we will be able to create a new competition which will be very similar to the NBA"
